A message from Dennis and Michele
Welcome to our first monthly newsletter. We have so much we want to share with you!
First, we hope that you and your loved ones are well. These are crazy days and there is so much unknown at this point. But, we must press on! To that end, we are disappointed that we’ve had to postpone our March community outreach event and our spin class fundraising event, but we are still hopeful!
We believe that we must be patient and remain hopeful in this time of waiting believing that something is to come. Furthermore, we believe that we must be purposeful in our waiting. This is never more true than for the differently abled community we represent through Rebecca’s Homestead. This population is one of the most at risk in contracting COVID-19 and has the most difficulty understanding the impact of things like social distancing and As a result, they’ll experience setbacks from the absence of their social interactions. Nurturing these social interactions is the heart of our purpose at Rebecca’s Homestead.
Our future home
Earlier this month, we placed a bid on a farm in Warren County, NJ. Unfortunately, the owner did not accept our offer. We had sincerely hoped that we had finally found a home for Rebecca’s Homestead. We visited the site on multiple occasions. We brought a trusted contractor, met with our attorney, and Trustees, hoping to purchase this property. It was not meant to be, and we continue to search for the perfect property.
We are still looking for our future home and believe we will purchase property by the end of this year. For our purposes, we need a minimum of 10 acres in Sussex, Warren, or parts of Morris and Passaic County (West Milford). Ideally, this property would have a house and out buildings too. We are working with a realtor, but if you hear of something that might be a good fit for us, please let us know!
Opportunities to serve
In the meantime, we are working on future community outreach and fundraising events, including our fall banquet. Right now, we are adhering to the state and federal guidelines to do our part to stop the spread of the coronavirus. Once closures are lifted and we can begin our normal activities, we will have lots of opportunities for volunteers for each of our monthly events. We have added a new volunteer application to our website, so please be sure to fill that out at your convenience.
Thank you for your generous support over the last three years. We are so grateful for each of you and pray for your health, well being, and safety during this time.
We look forward to seeing you all in person when these these trying days are over!
God bless you all!
